Journal History

Oto Rhino Laryngologica Indonesiana (ORLI) was first published in March 1970, with three manuscripts. At that time, the publication permit for ORLI was issued by the Department of Information of the Republic of Indonesia under No. 0797/SK/Dir.PK/SIT./1969. The editorial leadership was held by Dr. R. Soelarjo, Lt. Col. C.D.M., who was also the Head of the Department of Otolaryngology at the Central Army Hospital, together with Dr. Karmini. The editorial office was located at the Department of Otolaryngology, Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Jakarta.

After a one-year publication hiatus, ORLI was published again in 1972, featuring three manuscripts. At that time, the journal was led by Dr. Soewito and Dr. Soenarto, supported by an editorial board consisting of several specialists in otolaryngology. The editorial office was located at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Gadjah Mada University Hospital, Mangkuwilajan, Yogyakarta.

In 1977, under the editorship of Dr. Soenarto, ORLI published eight manuscripts. The articles covered various topics in otorhinolaryngology, including sinus surgery, nasal and paranasal sinus diseases, rhinitis, nasal reconstruction, mucosal function, tuberculosis of the ear, nose and throat, and hearing disorders.

In 2003, ORLI obtained C accreditation from the Directorate General of Higher Education (DIKTI), Indonesia. In 2007, the journal underwent a re-accreditation process; however, accreditation at the B level was not granted because the journal did not yet meet the required criteria.

As part of the journal’s transition toward electronic publishing, starting in 2018, manuscript submissions were required to be made through the online submission portal. This marked an important step in improving the efficiency and management of the editorial and peer-review processes.

Beginning in 2019, ORLI implemented a policy requiring all published articles to be written in English. This policy was adopted to improve the international accessibility and visibility of the journal and to support the dissemination of research findings to a broader scientific community.

For the 2017–2022 accreditation period, ORLI was accredited as a SINTA 2 journal, based on the accreditation decree No. 34/E/KPT/2018 Tgl. 12 Desember 2018. This accreditation recognized ORLI’s status within Indonesia’s national journal accreditation system and supported the journal’s continued development in scientific publishing and editorial management.

For the subsequent 2023–2027 period, ORLI received SINTA 4 accreditation under the national journal accreditation system. During this period, the journal has continued its efforts to improve editorial management, publication quality, manuscript standards, and the visibility of its published research.

ORLI continues to develop and improve its editorial management, publication standards, submission system, and manuscript guidelines in accordance with developments in scientific publishing. The journal remains committed to maintaining high standards of scientific integrity and publication quality while expanding the dissemination and visibility of research in the field of Otorhinolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery.
